Kevin Berneathy is in his fourth season as the Head Football Coach of the LaPorte Bulldogs. He has 19 years of coaching experience and the 2025 season will be his 8th season as a head football coach. He came to LaPorte HS from Pasadena Dobie High School where he served as the head football coach for four highly successful seasons. In four seasons at Dobie High School, he posted a 33-10 (.767) record. In 2020 Coach Berneathy led Dobie High School to their first undefeated regular season since 1998 and first district championship since 2010. Since arriving at LaPorte has won District titles in 2023 and 2024, Coach Berneathy’s teams have a combined record of (23-12), giving Coach Berneathy a (55-22) (.714) Career record as a Head Football Coach.
In his 19 years of coaching, Berneathy has been a part of six district championship teams, four regional finalist teams, a regional championship team, and a state championship team (Arkansas). In 2024, Coach Berneathy was awarded the District 11-5A Coach of the Year, GHFCA Coach of the Week (10), Dave Campbell's Texas Football Coach of the Week(13), and a Finalist for the Houston TD Club Coach of the Year award. In 2023, Coach Berneathy was awarded District 8-5A Coach of the Year and was recognized by the Houston Texans as the Houston Texans Coach of the Week. Coach Berneathy was also recognized in 2019 as Houston Texans Coach of the Week when he lead the Dobie Longhorns to their program’s first nine-win season in 20 years. In 2020, Coach Berneathy was awarded District 22-6A Coach of the Year. In 2021, Coach Berneathy was recognized in Dave Campbells Texas Football Magazine as a Top 40 Under 40 years old in the state of Texas. In his time as the Head Coach at Dobie, he was able to help multiple players move on to the college and Professional level; most notably Jason Brooks (U Of Houston); Jeremiah Ballard (Tulsa); Johnathan Baldwin (UNLV & Green Bay Packers).
As an offensive coordinator, Coach Berneathy has had multiple successful seasons. While at Angleton High School, he directed an offense in 2017 that scored 716 points on the season, an Angleton High School record. During the 2017 season the Angleton Wildcats advanced all the way to the state semi-finals, only one win away from a trip to the Class 5AD1 title game, but unfortunately lost out to Manvel High School. In the 2015 season at Angleton High School, the Wildcats advanced all the way to the 4th round of the playoffs only to fall to Ridge Point High School in overtime at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. As the offensive Coordinator at La Marque High School, Coach Berneathy led his offense to become the number one ranked offense in the district and the team advanced all the way to the third round of the playoffs. Coach Berneathy also served as an assistant coach at Dickinson High School (2013) and assistant coach here at LaPorte HS (2007-2012). While at LaPorte High School, Coach Berneathy spent most of his time coaching the offensive line. During this time, the Bulldogs won two district championships and multiple playoff games. In 2006 Coach Berneathy was fortunate to Student Teach/Coach with Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Arkansas. The Class 6A program would go on to win the Arkansas State Football Championship. Coach Berneathy was an All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American player at Division 2 Southern Arkansas University where he played offensive guard from 2002 until the 2005 season. In 2003 the Muleriders advanced to the Division 2 National Playoffs.
Coach Berneathy holds the high honor of being on the Board of Directors for the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association(GHFCA) as well as the Region V Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA).
