Bio
Coach Philip Causey enters his fourth season with the La Porte Bulldogs. Born in San Antonio, Texas and graduate of the University of Houston he will contribute to the Bulldog Football Program as an Offensive Assistant Coach.
Coach Causey played football for the University of Houston Cougars under Head Coach Kevin Sumlin until a season ending injury prevented him from finishing his senior year. During this time, he contributed as a student coach working with Special Teams and Defensive Personnel. The Cougars would finish the season 13-1 with a victory over Penn State in the Ticket City Bowl.
Upon graduation, he would return to San Antonio and his Alma Mater, Stevens High School, to receive his teacher’s certificate, instruct in their Life Skills Education Program, and coach linebackers. After two seasons with the Falcons, Coach Causey made his way to Canyon, Texas returning to collegiate football at West Texas A&M University. While with the Buffaloes, he coached Tight Ends, Fullbacks, and assisted with Special Teams. From 2014 to 2016, the Buffs would go on to have a record of 6-5 and 6-4 respectively with a noted victory over the defending national champion Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderwolves.
After his stint with the Buffaloes, Causey transitioned to Lee High School in Baytown, TX where he coached linebackers and coordinated special teams. Prior to his arrival, the Ganders had not experienced much success losing their previous 27 games. In Coach Causey’s first game at Lee, the Ganders managed to snap this losing streak with a go-ahead field goal victory over the Westbury Huskies. Within three seasons, Baytown Lee was turned into a playoff contender.
With success in Baytown came a new opportunity at Clear Springs High School in 2019. Coach Causey would coordinate the special teams operations and assist on the defensive side of the ball with Chargers. Each of his three seasons with the Chargers equated to playoff berths including a monumental victory over the Pearland Oilers in 2021.
Coach Causey recently celebrated his fourth anniversary with his wife, Jordan. They have a daughter, Kennedy (2), and two dogs Oreo and Tara.
